Approach and lookout hunting

North of Moscow

Capercaillie : it is the king bird of the great Russian forest. The grouse in these regions are particularly large compared to those we know in the Pyrenees. A good rooster often exceeds 5 kg !

The hunting of the great cockerel by crowing is practiced in the evening and especially in the morning at daybreak. The large roosters perched at the top of a fir tree crow to challenge the other males in their area. The game consists in using these songs to locate a bird first and then to approach it. When he crows, the rooster becomes deaf and releases his extreme natural mistrust. The hunter uses these moments to get closer to the animal. The slightest slip and the approach is lost !
